This is a one of a kind original acrylic painting of Britney Spears on cradled board.
I take great pleasure in developing my portraiture work and have produced a series of large-scale, dramatic celebrity portraits. They are quite unique in stylistic terms and represent a fusion of realism with design and pattern based elements. They are painted in acrylics, metallic colours and enamel with the addition of a final protective layer using acrylic matt medium. Flowers are a constant theme in my paintings; I incorporates natural forms in many of her pieces and have still life series with a surreal element.

About Artwork
This was painted while Britney Spears was still under her conservatorship and as one of the most influential, admired and successful pop stars of her time, I found it fascinating and highly unusual of our time that she was unable to use her platform on any media avenues to show/discuss her life, emotions or her conservatorship.
This is a statement piece on how she subtly communicated to her fans with surreal photos and muted videos that she was not free and the use of the 'red rose' repeatedly posted about on her Instagram is a source of confusion for many, and still is. The judge finally ended the conservatorship in November 2021. As a woman, I was and am saddened by her situation and the mental scars that will be left for years to come. I felt compelled to paint her, as I began to follow the #freebritney movement becoming louder and seeping into the mainstream media, while we were also stuck in lockdown, it resonated with me as she has essentially been stuck in a lockdown for over 13 years without the ability to express herself online or trust the people around her.
At the time of painting her, I felt desperate hearing her story (from other people) and hoped soon she would be free from this and able to tell her story as she has been unable to speak out for years.
As you can tell, despite the bright colours, flowers and boldness of this painting, there is a lack of warmth and happiness showing on her face, and this has been the unusual and unsettling view of Britney for the last few years on her social media posts.
It is unnerving that she has been unable to tell of the true horrors of her situation and has had to put out a pretence of light and happiness as to not bring light to the conservatorship. I hope that the next painting I am inspired to paint of her, once she has spoken and began to heal, will be full of joy and peace like she oozed at the beginning of her career.
